I had 14 years of EPF statements in a file that I had never once opened properly. The indexing session took exactly two hours. By the end, every document was labelled, the folder was numbered, and I had a sheet that told me what each item was and where it should go. I did not expect the session to be as calm and unhurried as it was — Halimah set a comfortable pace throughout.

I joined the reading course because I realised I had been quoting things from the EPF website for years without ever having read the actual member handbook myself. The six sessions were thorough — Rajan was methodical about pointing out which page we were on and why it connected to the previous session. I now have the reference list on my study shelf. The room was easy to find and the lift works reliably.

My wife and I signed up for the annual programme after our daughter suggested we get organised before I stop working entirely. Siti has been consistent at every check-in. She keeps the same categories we agreed on at the setup session, notes new documents without making any comment on what they contain, and the folder she produced for us at the December review is exactly what we needed. We have renewed for 2025.

I was hesitant at first because I was not sure what a document indexing session would involve. I expected some kind of presentation about retirement planning. It was nothing like that. We just went through my documents one by one and built the index. Very practical and exactly what it said it would be. I will probably join the reading course next year.

I attended the reading course mostly because I have always found official government documents difficult to follow on my own. Reading through them in a group, at the pace the group agreed, was a different experience. I would note that the room can feel a little warm in the afternoon — worth mentioning to the organisers before you book a late session. The course content itself was well organised.

My husband handles most of the paperwork in our household, so I enrolled in the annual programme partly to understand what documents we actually hold and partly to make sure there was a proper system if I ever needed to locate something myself. The quarterly check-ins are brief but thorough. Siti never overruns. The folder at year-end was a genuine surprise — it is very well laid out.

Case Notes
The Situation
A retired civil servant from Seremban had accumulated 17 years of EPF statements, SOCSO letters, and insurance renewal notices in three separate files with no consistent labelling system. The participant was preparing to move to a smaller property and needed the papers reduced to a single manageable folder before the move.
What Was Done
A standard two-hour indexing session produced the numbered index. The volume of documents warranted a second half-session, at which the participant and session leader worked through the remaining loose papers and assigned each one to the appropriate index category. The second visit was scheduled two weeks after the first.
The Outcome
The participant moved with a single A4 folder containing 48 numbered categories, each with a location note and an official source reference. Fourteen categories that had no matching document were flagged for follow-up. The participant described the index as "something I should have had 10 years ago."
The Situation
A group of six former colleagues from a Petaling Jaya company were all retiring within the same calendar year. Four of them had never read an EPF member handbook cover-to-cover. They enquired about whether the reading course could accommodate their group as a single cohort.
What Was Done
Latterly ran the reading course as a private cohort for the six participants, scheduled on fortnightly Saturdays to accommodate those still working part-time. The group read through the current EPF member handbook, the KWAP public summary, and the SOCSO participant guide across the six sessions.
The Outcome
All six participants completed the course over 12 weeks. Each received a personal reading log covering all three source documents and a printed reference list of official sources. Three participants subsequently enrolled in the annual records programme individually. The group noted that reading in company was noticeably more manageable than reading alone.
The Situation
A household in Ampang had maintained a records folder for several years, but the folder had not been opened or updated since 2021. The primary householder had retired in 2022, and several new documents — including a property notice and a change to insurance coverage — had accumulated outside the folder since then.
What Was Done
The setup session was used to audit the existing folder rather than build from scratch. Categories that were still current were relabelled; two categories that were no longer relevant were removed; five new categories were added for the post-retirement documents. The household then entered the standard quarterly check-in rhythm.
The Outcome
By the first quarterly check-in, all accumulated documents had been added to the correct categories and the index had been updated. At year-end, the household received a refreshed physical folder and renewed the programme for the following year, describing the quarterly cadence as "the only reason the folder actually stays in order."

Latterly's document handling practices were reviewed for compliance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act in November 2023. No participant document is retained beyond the session room.
